Is God Really Good?

Have you ever wondered if God is really Good?

Lately, I’ve found myself reflecting on how easy it is to say “God is good” when life feels calm and everything falls into place.

But when the world turns upside down — when evil is portrayed as good and good is portrayed as evil, just as God said would happen — it’s still overwhelming to witness at times.

When right is mocked and wrong is celebrated, when truth is twisted and hearts grow weary, it becomes harder to recognize His goodness.

We look around at the state of our nation, the turmoil in politics, and the decline in health of so many; hope itself feels like a challenge to hold onto.

Even as believers, there are moments when we whisper — or even cry out — “Lord, where are You in all of this?”

When Faith Meets Reality

If you’ve ever felt that tension — loving God, believing His promises, but struggling to see His goodness in the chaos — you’re not alone. I’ve been there too.

But here’s the truth I keep coming back to: God is still good, even when the world is not.

“For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations.”
Psalms 100:5 (NKJV)

“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed
That I would see the goodness of the Lord
In the land of the living.”
Psalms 27:13 (NKJV)

God’s Silence Is Not Absence

What we see doesn’t always match what God is doing.

The same God who seemed “silent” while Joseph sat in prison was actually setting the stage for his deliverance and promotion.
The same God who knew Lazarus would die was preparing to call him out of the grave and reveal His resurrection power to the world.
And the same God who permitted Job to be tested so severely was already planning to restore to him double rewards for his trouble.

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
(Romans 8:28 NKJV)

Even when we can’t see it, God is still working — weaving His purpose into our lives and aligning every detail with His promise.
His silence is never absence; it’s preparation for something greater.
And when His plan begins to unfold, His goodness always comes to light.

His Light Shines in the Darkness

God’s goodness doesn’t disappear when the world gets dark — it shows up in the dark and drives the darkness away.
That’s when His light shines the brightest, reminding us that even in the darkest night, His presence still prevails.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” — (John 1:5)

“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world.
He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.’” — (John 8:12 NKJV)

Even when we can’t see what God is doing, His light keeps leading the way.
The light of Christ is the very thing we must cling to by faith, the steady glow that reminds us hope is never lost, even in the darkest night.

Faith in the Storm

Sometimes we have to fight to remember what we know in those moments.
Faith isn’t ignoring the facts — it’s holding onto truth in the middle of the trials and the dark nights.
It’s saying, “Lord, I don’t understand what You’re doing, but I trust who You are. And I trust that what You promised, You will fulfill.”

Because faith doesn’t deny the storm; it declares that God is still greater than the wind and the waves.
He calls us to “Come” and walk on the water, just as He did Peter in Matthew 14:28–31.
But we must keep our eyes fixed on Him instead of the storm around us.

When sickness tries to rise up, we can still say and declare,

“By His stripes we are healed.”

And watch what God will do.

When injustice seems to spread, we can still say,

“The Lord will bring every hidden thing to light, and He promised that vengeance is His. Justice will prevail at the right time.”

And when the world shakes and trembles in an ungodly society, we can still stand on the promise,

“The kingdoms of this world will one day bow to the Kingdom of our God.”

Faithfulness That Never Fails

Through it all, when we choose to keep believing, God’s faithfulness always rises to the surface.
Every trial, every storm, and every season of waiting points us back to one unshakable truth: His goodness never fails.

God’s goodness is not proven by circumstances in our society or by popularity in this world.
It’s proven by the cross.
He gave His only Son for us.

That’s not the act of a distant God; that’s the proof of relentless love.

Standing Firm in Unshakable Goodness

When the world feels dark and divided, when leaders fail and values crumble, it can shake our confidence in His goodness.
But that’s when we must remember: God’s goodness doesn’t shift with circumstances; it stands firm because He never changes.
(Hebrews 13:8)

In times like these, we’re called to live — and even vote — as ambassadors of His Kingdom, reflecting His truth with grace and courage.
Not out of fear or anger, but out of faith.

Because when we anchor our hearts and our choices to His Word, we become living proof that His goodness still shines through His people.

“Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us:
we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.”
(II Corinthians 5:20 NKJV)

He Is Still Good

Even when the headlines are heavy, even when the world seems to spin out of control, we can rest in this: God’s goodness hasn’t gone anywhere.

  • He is still faithful.

  • He is still healing and restoring.

  • He is still working behind the scenes.

  • He is still raising up a remnant who will not lose hope.

“The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble.
He cares for those who trust in Him.” — (Nahum 1:7)

A Final Reminder

Maybe today your heart needs this reminder as much as mine does:
God’s goodness isn’t determined by our headlines or reports.
It is anchored in His heart and secured by His promises.

So even when it doesn’t feel like it, let’s keep declaring it:

God is good. He is faithful. His promises are sure. His light still shines through the darkness.

Because His Word says,

“He who promised is faithful.” — (Hebrews 10:23)

Hold onto that — and keep shining His light in a world that’s desperate to see it.
