Desperate People Do Desperate Things!

In this uplifting Christmas episode of the Angela Atkins Podcast, host Angela Atkins sits down with veteran evangelist and pastor Kay Osban to celebrate Jesus as the ultimate gift—bringing salvation, healing, hope, and abundant joy.

Key Points:

- The True Meaning of Christmas: Jesus came as Emmanuel ("God with us") to reveal God's heart of love, humility, and desire for relationship. He entered broken places to offer salvation, deliverance, and physical/emotional healing (John 10:10).

- God With Us in Trials: His presence replaces isolation with supernatural peace, strength, and comfort during fear, sickness, loneliness, and grief (Isaiah 41:10; 1 Peter 5:7). Both host and guest share personal stories of God carrying them through accidents, loss of loved ones, and deep questioning.

- Biblical Healing Stories & Lessons:

- Woman with the Issue of Blood: Desperate people do desperate things—she pressed through the crowd with simple faith ("If I touch His garment..."). Key: Determination, tenacity, and refusing to give a sob story; just reach out in faith.

- Jairus' Daughter: Believe past bad news ("Only believe"). Choose God's report over doctors' or circumstances'.

- Canaanite Woman: Persistence even when God seems silent or says "no"—great faith moves Him.

- Paralyzed Man Lowered Through Roof: Power of faith-filled friends who refuse obstacles; Jesus gives a "two-for-one" (forgiveness + healing). Reminder: Friends don't let friends go to hell—evangelize boldly.

- Faith Over Doubt: Surround yourself with believers, speak life, protect your faith from negativity. Fill yourself with God's Word until there's "no room for cancer" (or doubt, sickness, fear).

- Real-Life Miracles Shared:

- Instant healings (blindness reversed, tumors melting before doctors' eyes).

- Cancer vanished with no trace or scar ("brand new heart").

- Creative miracles (missing bone regrown without surgery).

- Defying prognoses (wheelchair-bound to walking, infertility overcome).

- God healing through doctors or instantly—always give Him first place.

- Joy, Laughter & Abundant Life: Laughter is good medicine (boosts immunity, reduces pain). Christianity isn't gloomy—Jesus wants us laughing on the way to heaven. Kay's humor shines through funny family stories (mom secretly eating chocolate-covered cherries, "mafia-style" dog care).

- Being Jesus to Others: Show up as "Jesus with skin on"—offer practical help, gentle guidance, and hope, especially to the lonely during Christmas.

- Final Encouragement: Not everyone is healed on earth, but God's ways are higher (Isaiah 55:8-9). Keep trusting Him. Salvation is the greatest miracle—Jesus took our sin and stripes for eternal life.

The episode ends with a powerful prayer for healing, salvation, comfort for the brokenhearted, and that the world would know "the Christ of Christmas."

  • Early Life and Childhood

    • Born in Harrisburg, Arkansas.

    • Her older brother was born first, followed by Kay about a year and a half later.

    • The family moved to Fresno, California, where her younger sister Margie was born five years after Kay.

    • Her father found work in Northern California, leading the family to relocate to the Hoopa Indian Reservation in Hoopa, California—a beautiful area surrounded by mountains with a river running through it.

    • Kay described her childhood there as idyllic, "like Mayberry"—peaceful, enjoyable, and filled with simple joys.

    • She started second grade in Hoopa (having moved there at age 7), graduated high school, and then worked at Jordan Shopping Center while actively involved in the local church.

    God's Call to Full-Time Ministry

    • One day, while enjoying her job and church life, the Lord clearly spoke to her heart: "I want you to quit your job. I want you to move to Arkansas and be a full-time evangelist."

    • Arkansas was 2,300 miles away from her family (parents, brother, sister) in California—a huge sacrifice.

    • Initially, Kay resisted: "I really appreciate the offer, but no thank you. I'm going to pass." She viewed it as an "offer" she could decline.

    • God made it clear it wasn't optional. For three months, Kay and the Lord "argued quite extensively."

    • Eventually, she obeyed, packing up and leaving her family behind in 1978.

    • She had a little dog named Skeer, whom she couldn't take on the road. She tearfully asked her mother (whose maiden name was Jesse James—adding a humorous family anecdote) to care for the dog. Tragically, her mother accidentally ran over and killed Skeer shortly after. Kay jokingly remarked, "When I said take care of her, I didn't mean mafia style!"

    Ministry Journey

    • Began full-time evangelizing in Arkansas in 1978, continuing there for 31 years. She made lifelong friends and had a "great time" in ministry.

    • During this period, she briefly pastored two churches while they searched for permanent pastors and also pastored in Hoopa, California, for one year (but told the overseer "that was enough" as pastoring is tough).

    • In 2009, the Lord called her to St. Mary's, Georgia, where she expanded her evangelistic work along the East Coast (up to Virginia).

    • She's evangelized in over 27 states, involving singing, leading youth camps, preaching in conferences and revivals.

    • Appeared as a guest on TBN (Trinity Broadcasting Network).

    • Authored the book Life Through the Eyes of a Redheaded, Wideeyed Full-Time Evangelist—a humorous, inspiring account of her adventures (highly recommended in the episode for its laughter and stories).

    • In February 2022 (specifically February 6th), the overseer asked her to temporarily care for a church in Fernandina Beach, Florida, for a couple of months. She's now been pastoring there full-time for about four years (as of the podcast recording). She describes her congregation as loving, fun, Lord-loving, and people-loving.
