Is God Really Good?

When the World Feels Upside Down: Remembering the Unshakable Goodness of God

Do you ever wonder if God is really good?

It’s an honest question—especially today, when the world feels like it has flipped completely upside down. Right is mocked, wrong is celebrated, and confusion seems to reign everywhere. As people argue online, celebrate division, or even rejoice over someone’s passing, it’s easy to look around and think:

“Where is God in all of this?”

But Scripture reminds us that what we see is not the full story. Isaiah 5:20 speaks directly to the moment we’re living in:

“What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil,
that dark is light and light is dark,
that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter.”

Even in a world full of chaos, God’s goodness has not changed—and He is still working behind the scenes in ways we do not always see.

God’s Work Doesn’t Stop Just Because We Can’t See It

Throughout the Bible, God consistently moved in silence long before His work was revealed in the natural world.

Joseph:

From the outside, it looked like he was forgotten in prison. But even as a slave and a prisoner, God was preparing him—training him in leadership and positioning him for a palace-level purpose. When the time was right, God elevated Joseph from the prison to being second in command over all of Egypt, saving nations from famine.

Lazarus:

To everyone watching, Jesus showed up “too late.” Lazarus had been dead four days. But Jesus already knew what He was going to do. What looked like delay was actually divine setup—an opportunity to demonstrate resurrection power.

Job:

He experienced unimaginable loss, grief, and hardship. Yet even in the silence, God had a plan for restoration. Job held on, trusting God’s character, and Scripture says He gave him double for all his trouble.

These stories remind us:
God is always working—even when we cannot see it.

Darkness Never Defeats the Light

When the world grows darker, that does not mean God’s goodness disappears. Darkness has never been stronger than the light.

John 1:5 says:

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.”

Jesus declared:

“I am the light of the world… Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” — John 8:12

His light guides us when nothing else feels steady.

But here’s the incredible part:
Jesus also says that we are the light of the world.

Matthew 5:14–16 calls us to shine boldly—not to hide, shrink back, or dim our faith, but to illuminate the world so that others see God through us.

Faith Isn’t Always Easy—But God Is Always Greater

Storms come. Winds rise. Waves crash. And sometimes, like Peter, we look at the chaos instead of keeping our eyes on Jesus. The moment Peter focused on the storm more than the Savior, he began to sink.

Yet Jesus immediately reached out and lifted him up.

The same God who rescued Peter is the One who strengthens us today.

Scripture tells us:

“Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.”

The power of Christ in us is greater than any force that comes against us.

God’s Promises Remind Us of His Goodness

One of the most encouraging passages in Scripture is Psalm 103:2–5:

“Let all that I am praise the Lord;
may I never forget the good things He does for me.
He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.
He redeems me from death
and crowns me with love and tender mercies.
He fills my life with good things…”

When sickness rises—we declare His healing.
When injustice spreads—we trust God to bring truth to light.
When society grows darker—we stand firm, confident that every knee will one day bow to Jesus.

God’s goodness is not determined by culture or chaos.
It was proven at the cross.

John 3:16 remains the greatest evidence of His love:

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…”

Nothing reveals God’s heart more clearly than the sacrifice of Jesus.

And Hebrews 13:8 reminds us:

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

He has not changed.
He is still faithful.
He is still healing.
He is still restoring.
He is still raising up believers who will stand strong in truth and hope.

Hold on to Hope: God Is Still Good

Nahum 1:7 declares:

“The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble.
He cares for those who trust in Him.”

So when the world feels upside down, remember:

God’s goodness is not anchored in headlines.
It is anchored in who He is.
His promises are unshakeable, His love unwavering, and His faithfulness eternal.

Even when it doesn’t feel like it—
God is good.
God is faithful.
And His promises will come to pass.

Hebrews 10:23 encourages us:

“He who promised is faithful.”

So keep declaring light over darkness.
Keep standing in hope.
Keep your eyes on Jesus.
And keep shining for a world desperately in need of hope.
